Kerala
By Our Special Correspondent
By another notification, ginger purchased within the State, at the point of last purchase, is being exempted from sales tax with effect from the same date. Registered dealers, except those dealing in ready concrete mix, live chicken and meat, furnace oil, low sulpher heavy stock and other ends of crude oil distillation and petroleum products other than imported LNG, too have been exempted from paying sales tax under the Kerala General Sales Tax Act, 1963. This part of the gazette notification is, however, not applicable to Central or State Government departments or public sector undertakings dealing in these products. The industrial units in the Cochin Special Economic Zone have been exempted from the payment of entry tax on goods imported by them. Another gazette notification announces the withdrawal of entry tax under the Kerala Tax on Entry of Goods into Local Areas Act, 1994, on timber, oil (edible and inedible including refined and hydrogenated oil), petroleum products other than furnace oil, low sulpher heavy stock and other heavy ends of crude oil distillation, imported as raw materials by registered dealers.
