Pondicherry
By Our Staff Reporter
The Minister's address was read out in absentia by A. Anbarasu, Secretary to the Tourism Department, at the all-India Tourism Ministers' conference in New Delhi on Thursday. Mr. Lakshminarayanan said the Administration would examine and implement the recommendations of the report in consultation with the Centre and professional bodies. The Minister pointed out that steps had been taken to preserve the unique architectural heritage of Pondicherry and make the State a `heritage town'. He also listed the various features of Pondicherry. Since tourism had been emerging as the largest industry, generating employment and becoming a powerful source for economic growth, the Territorial Administration was given high priority for promotion of tourism, he asserted. Mr. Lakshminarayanan who was to have participated in the conference could not leve for Delhi following Thursday's incident in which school children were hospitalised for symptoms of food poisoning after they had partaken of bread and milk supplied in the schools. The Minister left for Delhi today.
