AIBEA team meets Malkani

Pondicherry Sept. 6. A delegation of the All India Bank Employees Association headed by its secretary, C. H. Venkatachalam today called on the Lt. Governor, K. R. Malkani and presented to him the documents containing the full lists of names of defaulters of bank loans and also the amount due from them as principal over the years.

Later addressing newsmen Venkatachalam and his team members said that the AIBEA had launched a campaign since July 19 to bring to notice of the people the various aspects of loan dues and also demand of the Association. He said the purpose of the campaign was to visit various centres to procure signatures from three crore people. The document containing the signatures would be presented to President of India on November 27 at the end of a morcha by the bank staff and employees.

As much as Rs 487 crores loans had been due from several persons or industries in Pondicherry, he said.This list was also presented to Malkani.

The AIBEA wanted immediate release of list of names of defaulters, declaring wilful default in repayment as a criminal offence,criminal against the defaulters individually and not in the name of the companies or industries as had been done now and their property should also be attached.

The Association also suggested that a separate special court be established to try the cases of defaulters.
