The Chief Minister, Ajit Jogi, on Thursday called a meeting of Members of Parliament from Chhattisgarh to review the measures taken to deal with the drought situation. Ministers and senior officers from the Departments of Revenue, Panchayat, Agriculture, Fertilisers, Energy, Public Works, Public Health Engineering and Water Resources will be present at the meeting. Meanwhile, the State Government on Tuesday sanctioned Rs 9 crores for the construction of seven reservoirs and a stop dam in five districts. Of these, two will be constructed in the Bilaspur district, and one each in Koriya, Rajnandgaon, Surguja and Dantewada. As much as 874.45 hectares of land for kharif crop and 456 hectares of rabi crop will be irrigated with the help of these dams.The stop dam will be made in Gorella ehsil of Bilaspur with an estimated cost of Rs 22.70 lakhs and the Barodih reservoir will come at Pendra with an approximate cost of Rs 5.38 crores. Similarly, the Ratga reservoir will be constructed in the Baikunthpur tehsil of Surguja at a cost of Rs 39 lakhs, Chopan reservoir (Rs 42.87 lakhs), Mudijhiria reservoir (Rs 39. 73 lakhs) and Odgi reservoir at a cost of Rs 96.83 lakhs. In Rajnandgaon, the Bharuvatola reservoir will be made in the Dongargarh tehsil at a cost of Rs. 69.28 lakhs and an amount of Rs 63.44 lakhs will be spent for Arjunnali irrigation scheme in the Bhopalpatnam tehsil of Dantewada district.
