MYSORE SEPT. 6. The Chief Minister, S.M. Krishna, will inaugurate the fifth Mysore IT.Com on October 2. The four-day event is being organised by the Mysore Forum for Information Technology as a precursor to the Dasara festivities.

M.N. Shivaram, Chairman of the forum, said the event, which so far has been organised by the Dealers' Association for Information Technology, would cover all segments of the information technology industry, including software, hardware, software development, and IT enabled services. Companies from China would also participate. Seven of them from the Qilusoft Technology Park of Jinan city had confirmed their participation. A memorandum of understanding had been signed with Jinan Hi-tech Development Zone of Shandong Province in this regard recently. The companies from Mysore would participate in the IT expo to be held in Jinan from October 22.

Prof. Shivaram said the exhibition held as part of the event would have 120 stalls, and leading companies such as Infosys, L&T, Wipro Peripherals, BSNL, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Edurite, Televital, ThinkGen, and Touchtel, and the companies here would participate. The Department of Information Technology and the District Industries Centre would also join them. The BSNL would provide broadband Internet, video conferencing, and telecommunication facilities at the Chamundi Vihar Stadium, the venue of the event.

He said a business meet, CEOs' conclave, business and technology seminars, IT quiz competition, and IT-citizen interface would be held during the event. The conclave, a meet sponsored by Infosys, would have a panel of successful entrepreneurs and CEOs of IT companies. TiE Chapter of Bangalore is supporting the business meet. A camp on "Preparation of winning business plans" for entrepreneurs here would be organised. A panel discussion would be held through video conferencing with select members of TiE Chapter of Silicon Valley in the U.S., he added.

A series of seminars would also be held for students and working professionals. Leading IT companies from Bangalore had agreed to make presentations on smart commerce, remote sensing, telemedicine, infotainment, multimedia, e-learning, Web services, bio-informatics, and current trends in IT. Companies such as HP, Infosys, Knowledge Systems, Televital, ThinkGen, and Manipal Infodesk would be participating in the seminars. A theme pavilion would be set up to provide an opportunity for the public to experience the applications of IT such as video-conferencing, satellite imagery and its applications, e-learning, telemedicine, and wireless and mobile phones.

Claiming that the expo had grown exponentially over the past four years, he said the quality and profile of participation had improved.

The event was being organised in association with the Department of Information Technology and the district administration. Infosys was sponsoring the event, and a few other companies were also expected to come forward.
