BJP picks holes in Govt. police policy

By Our Staff Reporter

PATHANAMTHITTA Sept. 6. The BJP State president, C.K. Padmanabhan, has alleged that the Chief Minister, A.K. Antony, who holds the Home portfolio was yet to chalk out a progressive and pro-people police policy despite being in power for the past 15 months.

Talking to reporters at Pandalam today, the BJP leader alleged that the sorry state of affairs with the State's law and order situation had exposed Mr. Antony's failure to control the police machinery.

Mr. Padmanabhan alleged that the Director General of Police, K.J. Joseph, was controlling the Home Ministry and handling the role of the Home Minister.

Mr. Padmanabhan alleged that the UDF Government had taken no efforts to reform and rejuvenate the police machinery. The Government had miserably failed in properly utilising the Central fund allocation for modernising the police machinery, Mr. Padmanabhan alleged.

He alleged that the Central fund allocation had been "misused'' for purchasing vehicles. Even the staff was resentful against the DGP's "Thughlaqian'' reforms, he said.

The BJP State chief alleged that the CPI(M) leaders were controlling the police force in many parts of the State, exposing serious flaws in Mr. Antony's police policy.

Sex scandals, violence, burglary and total disruption of law and order are the balance sheet of the 15-month UDF rule and even a Dy.SP was held for his alleged involvement in a sex scandal, Mr. Padmanabhan alleged.

He warned of strong mass movement if the UDF Government imposed further power cut or load-shedding in the State.

Mr. Padmanabhan demanded a total restructuring of the KSEB in the larger interests of the State. He alleged that the KSEB had been turned into a den of corruption over the past several years and it was high time to save the public sector giant from the ongoing crisis. The BJP district president, V.N. Unni was also present.
