Letters to the Editor
Sir, The Human Resource Minister, Murli Manohar Joshi, while giving away the awards on Teachers Day repudiated the practice of corporal punishment in schools. During March last year, he gave an assurance in Parliament that caning will be banned in schools. My child, studying in Standard I in a CBSE school in Kerala, was savagely caned on November 6 last year. I have taken up the matter with the CBSE and have brought it to the Minister's notice. Medical examination of the child established the severity of the caning and on inquiry the school admitted severe caning. Till date there has been no action from the CBSE. Balaji, Palakkad, Kerala
