Announcing details at a press conference here on Thursday, Vivek Kulkarni, IT Secretary, Government of Karnataka, said last year the event had attracted 252 companies and 12 countries despite the IT slowdown, and this year response is expected to be much more. With nearly 16,000 sq mtrs of exhibition space, this year at least 350 companies are expected to participate in the event. The event generated a business of $200 million last year and this was expected to go up to $300 million this year, he said. Bangalore as such accounted for IT exports of Rs.10,000 crores, which was projected at Rs.14,000 crores this year. Mr. Kulkarni said the focus areas of the event would be Business Process Outsourcing (BPO), banking finance and insurance companies, and thirdly e-governance. There would be a BPO summit as also a short-term training course by the Institute of Bioinformatics and Applied Biotechnology (IBAB). B.V.Naidu, Director, Software Technology Park of India (STPI), Bangalore, said 860 of the 1,100 companies registered there were operational and exporting.
