Tamil Nadu-Chennai
By Our Special Correspondent
Speaking to mediapersons, Mr. Sastry said while 385 persons were killed in road accidents till August 8 last year, the toll during the same period this year was only 295. ``We want to reduce the accident figure even further and seek the cooperation of motorists and public in this regard'', the JCP said. Apart from enforcement, speedy medical assistance for accident victims during the `golden hour' saved several lives. The National Network of Emergency Services has placed nine ambulances at the disposal of the city traffic police. These ambulances are strategically located in different parts of the city and can be rushed in case of any emergency, the Deputy Commissioner (Traffic South), Karuna Sagar, said. The JCP said letters had been sent to all hospitals requesting them to continue their cooperation in giving treatment to accident victims. As several persons travelling on the footboard of MTC buses have had a fatal fall, police have launched a drive against footboard travelling.
