Superb spell by Saravanan

MADURAI AUG. 9. Mediumpacer C.R. Saravanan (seven for 20) spurred Madurai to a four-wicket win over Villupuram — its third straight victory — in a B zone league match of the Hercules-TNCA Trophy inter-district under-19 cricket tournament here on Friday.

At Madurai (B zone): Villupuram 115 in 39.3 overs (Ganesh 33, Kasi Viswanathan three for 26, C.R. Saravanan seven for 20) lost to Madurai 116 for six in 38.3 overs (Johnson 28, M. Rajkumar four for 17).

Tiruvallur 304 in 50 overs (Vishash 39, Sriram 48, Petson Mathew 36, Sridhar 61, Saravana Kumar four for 50) bt Ramanathapuram 114 in 26 overs (Meenasha 33, Anwar Ali 28, Vishash four for nine). Madurai and Tiruvallur qualified from this zone.

At Dindigul (A zone): Pondicherry 149 in 39.1 overs (V. Jayakumar 51, M. Sekar three for 32, B. Gopi three for 37) lost to Dindigul 150 for three in 27.1 overs (Vishal Kudawla 54, N. Vigneswaran 38 not out).

Nilgiris 130 in 42 overs (C. Vivek 40) lost to Namakkal 133 for nine in 16.1 overs (P. Loganathan 29, S.D. Vinodh five for 28). Dindigul and Pondicherry qualified through better Net Run Rate.

At Thanjavur (G zone): Tiruvannamalai 107 in 34.3 overs (Rajendra Kumar 25, R. Hari Prasad five for 22, S. Hari three for five) lost to Coimbatore 108 for seven in 25.1 overs (D. Murugan three for 33, Nooruddin three for 34).

Thanjavur 201 in 47.4 overs (Gautham 31, S.Vijaykumar 25, T.Manikandan 25, Sakthi 40 not out, Sivachandra Bose three for 30) bt Tuticorin 73 in 20.2 overs (S. Vijayakumar four for 24, M. Shyamsundar three for 24, M. Suresh three for 12). Coimbatore and Thanjavur progressed.

At Sivakasi (C zone): Tirunelveli 211 for five in 50 overs (Abdul Rehman 48, Senthilrajan 75, Arunkumar 45) bt Sivagangai 158 in 44 overs (Anand 32, Saravanan four for 29).

Theni 65 in 30.3 overs (S. Karthick four for 18) lost to Virudhunagar 66 for one in 10.4 overs (Kalirajan 38 not out). Tirunelveli and Virudhunagar advanced.

At Nagapattinam (F zone): Kancheepuram 261 in 50 overs (Giridharan 39, Shravanakumar 57, Srinivasan 59, Nithiyanandan four for 40, Satheesh three for 20) bt Erode 189 in 49 overs (Kumaravel 40, Satheesh Kumar 26, Nithiyanandan 25).

Nagapattinam 131 in 42 overs (Vinod 34 not out, Praveen four for 25) lost to Salem 132 for five in 35 overs (Narendran 64, Nareshkumar three for 13). Kancheepuram and Salem qualified.

At Tiruchi (F zone): Tiruchi 299 in 49.4 overs (Thangadurai 78, Dharshan 39, Sanjay 27, Arunkumar 60, Ganesh three for 49) bt Karur 88 in 36.4 overs (R.Vinoth 38, Jerald four for 18, Hari Prasad three for 15).

Vellore 205 in 50 overs (S. Manivannan 92, E. Suresh 33, K.B. Arun Karthick four for 25) bt Dharmapuri 128 in 37.4 overs.
