Maruti rolls out diesel variant of Esteem

NEW DELHI AUG. 9. Maruti Udyog Ltd. (MUL) today launched the diesel version of its mid size car Esteem. The diesel engine of Esteem would primarily cater to the Southern markets which would be subsequently launched in the rest of the country. Encouraging response to Zen diesel prompted MUL to roll out the diesel variant which would be powered with Peugeot's 1527cc, 57 hp diesel engine, a company statement said.

With the unveiling of the diesel variant, MUL has also upgraded all the Esteem models — Esteem LX, LXi (with power steering), VX and AX (with automatic transmission).

Esteem VX, the high-end variant of the car, has been rechristened as VXi which will now have additional features along with the AX model.

The upgraded versions of Esteem will have features such as new front grille, rear spoiler with stop lamp, wider tyres and rear defogger among others.

The five variants of Esteem have been priced in the bracket of Rs. 4.80 lakhs to Rs. 5.66 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Till date MUL has sold 1.5 lakh units of Esteem while during April-July the overall domestic sales of the company stood at 90,000 units. — PTI
