The Superintendent of Police, Ramesh Harihar, has deputed a special police team to Andhra Pradesh after interrogation of the arrested persons in the case. Police suspect that the printing of counterfeit currency notes had been going on for a long time in a tile factory on the outskirts of Ankola. The owner of the tile factory, Suresh Desai, who had been arrested with six others, had more workers from Andhra Pradesh, who were suspected to be involved in printing the counterfeit currency. Dayanand Naik, an accomplice of Suresh Desai, who is now in police custody, had allegedly circulated the counterfeit currency of Rs. 100 and Rs. 500 denominations in Ankola and neighbouring areas. It is said that four persons from Sakleshpur, Ibrahim Haji, Idris, Ibrahim Ismail, and Ismail Abu Baba, who possessed counterfeit notes, were suspected to have links with the tile factory. Police arrested one more person, Ganapati Govind Naik of Agsor, a lorry driver, and seized a motorcycle from him in connection with the case. Police do not rule out the existence of a similar racket in Ankola. The kingpin of the entire racket is suspected to be Basha, who had been arrested. Basha was arrested sometime ago on charges of car theft. In fact, the Karwar Police have recovered 14 cars based on the information given by Bhasha from different places.
