Andhra Pradesh-Hyderabad
By Our Staff Reporter
Levels in the reservoirs that supply water to the city have begun plummeting in the absence of proper inflow. The main reservoir, Osmansagar, which had a full reservoir level of 1,790 feet on Wednesday, had water barely touching 1,767.09 ft mark -- this against 1,777.90 ft recorded last year on August 1. Against an FRL of 1,763.50 ft, water level at Himayathsagar was 1,750 ft today, which was just close to 1,750.65 ft recorded last year. Manjira (FRL of 1,651.75 ft) had 1,651 ft of water against 1,645.40 ft of August 2001. However, HMWSSB officials say the levels are `comfortable.' Good rain and sufficient inflow would result in ensuring proper drinking water supply. "As we get rain till November, there is no need to get alarmed over water levels now,'' maintained a board official. Against a daily requirement of 200 million gallons per day, the board has been supplying 153 MGD which, officials said, could be maintained till next couple of months on alternate days.
