She was inaugurating a function to observe "Breast-feeding Week", organised by the Song and Drama Division, Food and Nutrition Board, Breast-feeding Promotion Network of India (BPNI), and the Women and Child Development Department here on Thursday. Ms. Motamma said many women in rural areas were not aware that mother's milk was the best way to guard an infant against infection and disease. The Women and Child Development Department would formulate projects to promote health and nutrition, especially of women and children, she added. Subhadra Venkatappa, President, Family Association of India, Karnataka branch, said despite the campaign for breast-feeding in the State, with focus on the health of women and children, State government departments did not have a crèche or a separate room where nursing mothers among the employees could feed their babies. She suggested that the facility be built in all government departments with women employees. She said that the minimum age for marriage should be 21 years for women and 28 years for men.
