By Our Special Correspondent

LUCKNOW Aug. 1. The Uttar Pradesh Minister for Urban Development, Lalji Tandon, was today unanimously elected leader of the State BJP legislature party in place of Rajnath Singh who had resigned following his nomination as the BJP general secretary.

His name was proposed by the outgoing leader, Rajnath Singh, and seconded by other top leaders of the State unit, including Ram Prakash Gupta, Om Prakash Singh and Ram Prakash Tripathi. The proceedings of the legislature party meeting were conducted by the former U.P. BJP president and in-charge of the State party affairs, Kalraj Mishra.

Mr. Tandon as also other leaders

Mr. Tandon said the BJP did not oppose the Dalit agenda of the Bahujan Samaj Party but "nothing should be done to cause insult to the lotus (the election symbol of the BJP)".
