Kerala-Thiruvananthapuram
By Our Special Correspondent
Disclosing this at a news conference here today, the Local Administration Minister, Cherkalam Abdulla, and the Transport Minister, K. B. Ganesh Kumar, said the Cabinet sub-committee on development of capital city would submit its report in a week. The Government, they said, had also plans to introduce Sky Bus with private participation in Kochi and replace all the city service buses in Thiruvananthapuram with support from foreign funding agencies. The Ministers were speaking to the media after presentation of a draft report on Comprehensive Traffic and Transportation Improvement Plan for the capital city prepared by Consulting Engineering Services Private Limited to the Government here today. The report was handed over to the Additional Chief Secretary, N. Chandrasekharan Nair, by the Consulting Engineers Services India Private Limited executive director, B. C. Roy. The report seeks to create new corridors to provide better connectivity between the capital city and the adjacent panchayats by creating integrated mass transport corridors which could later be converted into a rail-based mass rapid transport system.
