Talking to presspersons today, he said Ms. Gandhi would launch the Education Department's free breakfast scheme (distribution of milk and bread), named after Rajiv Gandhi, on her arrival at Uppalam. A Government building, named after Kamaraj, as a highlight of celebration of his birth centenary, would be declared open by Ms. Gandhi. Mr. Narayanasamy said the AICC president would address a meeting later at the Rajiv Gandhi Square to formalise the merger of the Puduchery Makkal Congress with the Congress. The PMC founder, P. Kannan, and himself were making arrangements for the same. Mr. Narayanasamy welcomed the stand of the new Lieutenant Governor, K. R. Malkani, that he would extend full cooperation to the Government. He said the AICC general secretary, Ramesh Chennithala, would visit Pondicherry on August 6 to chalk out detailed programmes on the visit of Ms. Gandhi. Mr. Narayanasamy said the Youth Congress here would take out a rally to accord a warm reception to the AICC leader and delegates of the all-India Youth Congress Committee.
