Medical assistance for six poor persons

Pondicherry Aug. 1. The Health Minister, E. Valsaraj, today handed over financial assistance under the `Medical Relief Assistance for Poor Scheme' to six patients to meet expenditure for treatment in corporate hospitals.

An official release said today that while K. Ramalingam of Mudaliarpet was sanctioned Rs. 80,000 to undergo CABG surgery at the Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences at Kalapet near here, S. David of Pondicherry, O. Mohammed Ali of Karaikal and K. Madhavan of Mahe had been sanctioned Rs. 1.5 lakh each to meet the expenditure for the advanced treatments in the Chennai-based hospitals. R. Ramya Bharathi was sanctioned Rs. 1.25 lakhs for open-heart surgery at the Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Hospital, Chennai, and K. Manimegalai was sanctioned Rs. l lakh for mitral valve replacement surgery at the PIMS here.
