2 'mercenaries' from Tiruchi held

By Our Staff Reporter

Pondicherry Aug. 1. After a high-drama, a team of police, led by the Senior Superintendent, Anandh Mohan, today arrested two persons belonging to Tiruchi, at Velrampet on the Pondicherry- Cuddalore route.

Selvam and Bharathi, alleged mercenaries engaged in number of murders in Tamil Nadu, came to Pondicherry from Tiruchi on Wednesday. They were hiding in a house, which they had taken on rent at Velrampet sometime ago.

A six-member police team from Tiruchi camped here and sought the cooperation of the Pondicherry police in nabbing them. The accused surrendered today after the appeals from the SSP through a microphone from outside the house. They were immediately taken to the Mudaliarpet station for investigation. Lethal weapons and bullets were seized from the house. The two-hour drama was witnessed by a large number of people living in the neighbourhood.

With the accused coming out of the house, the police waiting outside made a search on the person and held them. The two were then taken to the nearby police station for the investigation.
