Boycott unfortunate: Marandi

By K. Balchand

RANCHI Aug. 1. The Jharkhand Chief Minister, Babulal Marandi, today described as "unfortunate" the boycott of his all-party meeting by all the major opposition parties. He had called the meet to resolve the impasse over the new domicile policy, which has created tension in the State.

Talking to newspersons after the meeting, attended by his allies in Government and four small parties, Mr. Marandi said that the political parties, which did not have the courage to spell out a clear stand on the issue, were either "cowards" or "indulging in politics." He had talked to each one of the Opposition parties, including the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and the Congress. The Leader of the Opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, Stephan Marandi, had assured him that he would attend the meeting. The JMM legislative party leader, had, in fact, wanted the meeting to be held a day earlier. The Chief Minister said that the Opposition could have voiced its protest at the meeting. All those who attended the meeting had put forth their views and the Government would keep them in mind while taking a decision.
