China to buy Russian fighters

MOSCOW AUG. 1. Russia is about to sell a large batch of Su-30 jet fighters to China, media reports said.

The main arms dealer, Rosoboronexport, is negotiating to sell China 30 to 40 Su-30MK2 planes, a naval version of the heavy multi-role Su-30MKK fighter Russia sold China earlier, the reports said. Armed with the X-31A anti-ship missiles, the Su-30MK2 with an operational range of over 3,000 km will boost China's ability to challenge the U. S. military might off Taiwan.
