This Day That Age
New Egyptian Govt. Egypt's new Premier, Hussein Sirry Pasha announced in Cairo on July 15 that his Government's policy was aimed at the evacuation of British troops from the Suez Canal Zone and the unity of Egypt and the Sudan under the Crown of King Farouk. In the first exclusive interview he had given to a local or foreign journalist, the 60-year-old Government leader outlined to a U.P.A. correspondent the policy of his Cabinet in international and domestic affairs. He said: "The chief plank of my programme is the unity of the Nile Valley under the Crown of King Farouk and the evacuation of the Suez Canal Zone." The Premier stressed the need for security in his domestic programme. He said: "Martial law will continue as a long as necessary and he who attempts to trifle with public security will be crushed. The Egyptian army is supplied with modern arms and equipment and is equal to the best in the world." Asked if he was planning to resume negotiations with Britain on the Anglo-Egyptian question, he said: "Yes. The chief plank of my programme, as you saw in my letter accepting the offer to form a Government, the unity of the Nile Valley under the Crown of King Farouk and the evacuation (of foreign troops) from the Suez Canal Zone. Sri Sankaracharya's Appeal His Holiness Jagatguru Sri Sankaracharya in an appeal to all religious-minded persons, said: "The noblest service that we can render to our fellowmen is to draw them near to God and help them to utter His Gracious Name in their dying moments. It is, therefore, necessary that organised attempts should be made to get at the dying persons and fix their mind on God and make them recite His Gracious Name. Those, who intend taking up this work, are required to make a note of persons on the point of death in their area and are required to approach them, offer them Thulsi or Vibudhi prasadam sent from the Kamakoti Mutt or any prasadam locally available. They should then exhort them to recite the Rama Nama or Siva Nama as the case may be and thus direct their thoughts towards the Lord.
