The Chief Minister, N. Chandrababu Naidu, arriving at the first convocation of the IIIT in Hyderabad on Tuesday.
The Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, R. Chidambaram, in his convocation address, said the contribution of IT to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was considerable, but the full potential of IT was yet to be realised. Indian software industry did well abroad also and entered IT Enabled Services and Bioinformatics. But to retain its leadership, the industry must move up the value chain and also capture high-end products and software, he said. It was also important for India to enter the hardware area, he said. The Chairman of the Governing Council, IIIT, Raj Reddy, the Director, IIIT, Rajeev Sangal, and the Director International, IIIT, Narendra Ahujaspoke. In all, 49 students received the Degree of Bachelor of Technology in Computer science and Engineering, and 16 the Post Graduate Diploma in Information Technology.
