By Our Staff Reporter
The four day-long event, scheduled to open at the Technopark here on August 1, will represent scaling up by two-fold the size, scope and numbers of the predecessor event held two years back at the same venue, informed M. Sivasankar, Director of the Kerala State Information Technology Mission, the official IT implementation agency. At a press conference here today, he said leading players in the industry such as Intel, Wipro, HP, Compaq, Sun Micro, C-DAC, RPG Group, Tata Telecom and Asianet were expected to participate in this year's event. The event will open up two specific windows of business opportunities, namely the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) exposition and the International Convention, which will bring together distinguished and prominent players of the ICT space on a single platform. Over 150 delegates from across the country are expected to participate in the international convention with the theme "Managing change in the e-economy.'' Around 20,000 trade visitors and over two lakh general visitors are expected to attend the event, Mr Sivasankar said. Among the attendees will be CEOs, educational administrators, heads of PSUs from the corporate sector, IT Secretaries and IT representatives from various States, professionals, decision makers and financiers such as VCs and fund managers. To ensure that the benefits of the event pass on to the general public, separate open seminars will be conducted on topics such as "Emerging job opportunities in IT'' and "How to choose the right PC''. Another seminar will be conducted for the benefit of the small-business community on topics such as video conferencing, voice over IP (VoIP), e-business, network management and such other topics of interest. The Karnataka Chief Minister, S. M. Krishna, will inaugurate the IT Kerala 2002 in the presence of the host Chief Minister, A. K. Antony.
