Tamil Nadu
By Our Special Correspondent
In a statement here, Mr. Paneerselvam said Mr. Vaiko, after the arrest at the Chennai airport on July 11, was provided dinner at the office of the Tamil Nadu Special Police force at Ulundurpet at 9.30 p.m. Later, at Madurai, before being taken to Vellore, he was given coffee. On the way to Vellore, he was given breakfast at the Tiruchi office of the Tamil Nadu Special Police force. He was also given snacks during the journey. Taking strong exception to the publication in the press of the statement made by the MDMK political advisory committee member, N. Subramani, that Mr. Vaiko was not given food during the journey to jail, Mr. Paneerselvam specifically mentioned The Hindu thrice in a three-page statement. Although the report, as Mr. Paneerselvam himself acknowledged, had appeared in several newspapers based on the statement made by Mr. Subramani in Vellore, The Hindu came in for special mention. Mr. Paneerselvam described the report by the press, ``especially by The Hindu'', as ``vehemently condemnable''.
