`PW ban no hurdle to talks'

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD JULY 16. The Government, which extended the ban on the People's War of the CPI (ML) on Monday, has said the action should not be an impediment to talks between the two to find a lasting solution to extremist violence.

"I say once again. Our doors are open for talks with them. We are genuinely interested in finding a solution. Ban and talks are two different things. Talks can go on regardless of the ban,'' the Minister for Excise, Tammineni Seetaram, said in an informal chat with reporters in the Assembly lobbies on Tuesday. Even while the ban was on, talks could be facilitated by the Government guaranteeing safe passage to the PW leaders named for the purpose. Mr. Seetaram, who participated in three rounds of talks with the PW emissaries, was confident that the negotiation process would continue, despite the emissaries — Gaddar and Varavara Rao — opting out. The next round, he hoped, would be directly with the PW leaders.
