A resolution to this effect was passed at the two-day 30th anniversary celebrations of the union here on Sunday. The union criticised the Government for forcing a voluntary retirement scheme on the employees and privatising its establishments. The new economic policy, adopted under the pressure of the World Trade Organisation, would have an adverse impact on the industry and agriculture. Instead of creating new employment opportunities, the Government was freezing jobs.Other resolutions passed in the meeting include issues such as talks for pay revision, reward for drivers having accident-free record, employment on compassionate grounds to the kin of employees in the event of their death, alternative work for employees suffering ill-health and timely promotions.
