Nabbed after 6-year impersonation

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI July 16. It may sound strange, but it is true: a person was in railway service for nearly six years by impersonation.

He was caught by the CBI a few days ago and remanded to judicial custody.

According to the investigating agency, Masthan of Biradawada in Andhra Pradesh, joined the railways as a trackman under the permanent way inspector, Tiruvellore, by allegedly impersonating as K.Venkataiah.

Masthan was caught on the pay day when he received an amount of Rs.5,020 as salary and PF advance.

A head clerk, K.Selvaraj, who abetted him, was also arrested and remanded to judicial custody.

Investigators suspect that the offence was committed with the connivance of some railway officials.

A detailed probe was on, a CBI release said.
