Sarpanch killed

Jammu July 16. Militants killed a sarpanch of Sarna area in Doda district on Monday. Police sources told The Hindu that the sarpanch, Gasyuddin, who was a retired head master, was kidnapped from his house, and taken to an undisclosed place and killed. After the incident, five sarpanches of Gandoh area have resigned.

Militant organisations in the Gandoh area had threatened sarpanches and panches to resign. Only a few days ago, a sarpanch, Sher Khan, was killed by militants. Police today busted a hideout of militants and recovered 15 kg of RDX.

Meanwhile, reports said an Army jawan was killed and two others were injured in a land-mine blast in Poonch sector on Monday.
