Letters to the Editor
Sir, I had a horrible experience with the Life Insurance Corporation branch in Tiruchi. It is true counterfeit coins and fake currency notes are in circulation every now and then. But in the name of vigil and preventive action, harassing the public by questioning their integrity when they tender higher denomination currency notes such as Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000 at public counters is most unfortunate. Detaining them and obtaining their signature is not only reprehensible but also violative of their constitutional rights. While fake currency detectors are abundant in the market, will the authorities in Government undertakings dealing with cash transactions take action to ensure quick scrutiny of currency notes and avoid humiliating the public? E. Mohamed Ali, Tiruchi, T.N.
