By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE JULY 4. As many as four touts working from regional transport offices were handed over to police here on Thursday. There was commotion at the RTO South, Jayanagar, and RTO West, Rajajinagar, for some time when middlemen or RTO agents protested against the action of the Transport Department. However, the situation was brought under control with the intervention of police.

While three touts were apprehended and handed over to police by the Regional Transport Officer, South, Udayashankar, the Joint Commissioner of Transport (Enforcement-South), C.R.Mohammed Suleman, the Deputy Commissioner of Transport, Muniveere Gowda, and the RTO, West, Raghunath, apprehended one tout at Rajajinagar. The action is the result of a number of complaints by the public regarding the menace of touts at regional transport offices. The department is also taking steps to reform the system. One of the measures is the on-line registration for learner's license launched in the City recently. The Transport Commissioner, T.Thimme Gowda, told The Hindu that action would be taken against touts not only at the offices in the City, but also at those elsewhere.
