Pavannan remanded to custody

ERODE July 4. The Tamil Mandram organiser and LTTE supporter, R. Pavannan, who was arrested by the Kavindapady police at Machuvadi, Pudukottai, yesterday and produced before Judicial Magistrate, Sathyamangalam, Subramaniam, today, was remanded to custody for 15 days. Pavannan, a close associate of P. Nedumaran, the Tamil Nationalist Movement leader, reportedly made an inflammatory speech against the Chief Minister, Jayalalithaa, on June 24 at Kavindapady, Erode.

Addressing a meeting organised by the Pavender Ilakkiya Mandram at Kavindapady, Mr. Pavannan spoke in support of the LTTE and allegedly used derogatory works to criticise the Chief Minister.

The Kavindapady police registered a case under Section 153 (A), promoting enmity between groups, and 124 (A), sedition, against Mr. Pavannan.
