Md. Ameer stuns Nikhit

CHENNAI JULY 4 . Arakonam boy Md. Ameer brought some cheer to the home gathering with a 15-6, 15-9 win over the top-seeded Nikhit Karnatak of UP in the boys under-13 first round match of the main draw competition in the Krishna Khaitan memorial all-India junior badminton tournament at the Nehru indoor stadium on Thursday.

Ameer, a student of St. Andrews HSS, trains in Chennai under Sanjeev Sachdeva and this is easily one of his best performances in his young career. It was a day of mixed luck otherwise for Tamil Nadu. While Gaurav Chinappa, brother of squash sensation Joshna Chinappa, did well, Aditya Elango, who only a few months ago had annexed the under-13 title in a BPL tournament in Bangalore, was brought down by qualifier Mandeep, a school student from Chandigarh in three energy sapping games.
