Second IM norm for Deepan

KOZHIKODE JULY 4. India's Deepan Chakravarthy made his second International Master norm, even as he maintained the sole lead after the ninth round of the Asian junior chess championship at Marawila (Sri Lanka) on Thursday. He drew with compatriot S. Satyapragyan to take his tally to seven points, half-a-point ahead of Mark Paragua of Philippines and Ghaem Maghami.

The most impressive performer in the girls' section, Tania Sachdev, drew her top board game with teammate and pre-tournament favourite D. Harika to remain in the sole lead. The Delhi teenager was on 7.5 points, while another Indian, Y. Prathiba, was in the second position with seven.

Boys: Deepan Chakkravarthy 7 drew with S. Satyapragyan 6; Ghaem Maghami 6.5 bt S. Kidambi 6; Mark Paragua 6.5 bt Peyman Mohajerin 5.5; Preetham R. Sharma 4.5 lost to Megaranto Susanto 6; G. Rohit 6 bt P.M.A.B. Athukorala 4.5; Smerdon David Craig 4.5 lost to Vu Dinh Hung 5.5.

Girls: D. Harika 6 drew with Tania Sachdev 7.5; Siti Zulaikha Binti 5 lost to Y. Prathiba 7; P. Priya 6 drew with M. Kasturi 5.5; Huynh Mai Dun 5 lost to Mary Ann Gomes 6.5; Eesha Karavade 6 bt Dana Aketaeva 4.5; J.E. Kavitha 5 bt Konara Anupama 4.
