Customs duty raised on tea, coffee

New Delhi Feb. 28. The Finance Minister, Yashwant Sinha, has increased customs duty on tea and coffee to 100 per cent and on natural rubber, poppy seeds, pepper, cloves and cardamom to 70 per cent to discourage imports of these products.

The duty on pulses was also raised from 5 to 10 per cent.

Last year, the customs duty on tea, coffee, copra, coconut and desiccated coconut was raised to 70 per cent.
