U.S. may walkout of treaty
- PTI

MOSCOW, DEC. 11. The U.S. is planning to shortly announce its decision to unilaterally withdraw from the 1972 anti-ballistic missiles (ABM) treaty, Itar-tass reported.

The agency, quoting reliable sources in Washington, said the U.S. could make this announcement on Thursday.

During his Moscow visit yesterday, the Secretary of State, Mr. Colin Powell informed Russia about Washington's decision to walk out of the treaty which was curbing the development of the U.S. national missile shield, the agency said.

The treaty, dubbed by the U.S. President, Mr. George Bush a `cold war relic', requires a six-month notice to Moscow for its abrogation.
