PUNE, DEC. 11. Renowned Indologist and internationally-acclaimed vedic scholar, Mr. R.N. Dandekar, died here today at a nursing home, family sources said. He was 93 and is survived by wife, Ms. Indumati.

Mr. Dandekar was hospitalised on Monday after he complained of uneasiness. The end came this evening.

Born in Satara on March 17, 1909, Mr. Dandekar has edited various books, especially on the `Vedas'. He was awarded `Padmabhushan' in 1962. He got his doctorate in German in 1938 for his thesis, `Der Vedish Mensh'.

His `Vedic Suchi', a bibliography first published in 1946 and then reprinted in 1961 and 1973, is a valuable guide for the vedic students.

Mr. Dandekar, who was the vice-president of Bhandarkar Institute of Oriental Studies, also served as an advisor in UNESCO for Indology.
