Bomb hoax delays Vasco train
By Our Staff Reporter

BANGALORE, DEC. 11. The Yeshwanthpur-Vasco Passenger train that left the City around 4.30 p.m. on Tuesday was stopped at the Doddabele railway station in Bangalore Rural District for about four hours following an anonymous call that a bomb had been planted in one of the bogies.

Even as tension prevailed at the railway station, a search of the train, which had 14 bogies with 1,270 passengers, revealed that the call was a hoax, police said.

According to police, the Arasikere police in Hassan District received an anonymous call at around 4.30 p.m. that a bomb had been planted in one of the coaches. They alerted their Tumkur counterparts who informed the Railway Control Room in Bangalore.

Subsequently, police stopped the train at the Doddabele railway station, around 25 km. from the City, falling under the Thymagondalu police limits of Bangalore Rural District.

The bomb disposal squads of the Railways, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Intelligence Wing, and the Bangalore City, Bangalore Rural District and Tumkur District police conducted a search of the train.

After it was confirmed that the call was a hoax, the train left the Doddabele station at 8.50 p.m. However, many passengers had left the train to make other travel arrangements, and when it left, there were 641 passengers in it, police said.

The Superintendent of Police, Bangalore Rural District Mr. Bhaskar Rao, and senior railway police officials supervised the search operations that went on for more than three hours.
