BJP seeks SEC intervention
By Our Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD, DEC. 11. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), on Tuesday, submitted a memorandum to the State Election Commissioner, Mr. K. Madhava Rao, alleging irregularities in the delimitation and reservation of divisions for the coming elections to the MCH.
A BJP delegation, led by its City president, Mr. C. Ramachandra Reddy, urged Mr. Madhava Rao to issue instructions to the MCH to correct anomalies before a notification for elections was issued. ``In a bid to comply with the High Court directive on holding local body polls, the MCH completed delimitation and reservation exercise in a hurry and gave scope to several irregularities,'' Mr. Reddy said.
The delegation cited instances of alleged irregularities and sought the interference of the SEC. While the Yellareddyguda division had only 20,000 voters, the Rehmatnagar division got 48,401 voters. The BJP also objected to the whole of Khairtabad Assembly Constituency being kept as unreserved, whereas all the divisions under the Secunderabad Assembly Constituency were reserved for either BC, SC, ST or for women.
Mr. Ramachandra Reddy faulted the MCH for taking two different parameters, one based on voters and other on population, for the purpose of reservations.
After giving a patient hearing to the delegation, Mr. Madhava Rao clarified that his office doesn't have a say in the process of reservation of divisions for the coming MCH polls. "I must disappoint you,'' he observed. He however, assured to forward the memorandum to the authorities concerned.
The City BJP leaders, including the general secretary, Mr. Subash Chanderji, vice-presidents, Mr. Venkat Ramani, Mr. Venkat Reddy and Mr. T. Lingam, were also present.

Our Special Correspondent adds: The Congress city unit, on Tuesday, urged the SEC to take each Assembly segment as a unit while deciding reservations for SCs, STs, BCs and women rather than taking the entire city as a single unit.
In a telegram to the SEC, the APCC delegate, Mr. G. Niranjan, pointed out that out of 12 Assembly segments in the MCH limits, there was no reservation for SCs in eight Assembly segments, while BCs had no quota in three. All municipal divisions in the Maharaj Gunj and Secunderabad constituencies had been reserved without giving a single seat to the open category.
