Central varsity accounts approved

HYDERABAD, DEC. 11. The Central University of Hyderabad's Executive Council and the court, on Monday, approved the annual report and the annual accounts for 2000-2001, which would be placed before Parliament later this month, a press release here said.
The two-day meeting expressed happiness that the university was selected by the UGC as one of the five universities with ``potential for excellence'' and was extended special funding of Rs.30 crores. The funds were to be utilised in the next five years for augmenting the academic and infrastructure facilities.
Both the council and the court placed on record their appreciation of the progress made by the university in general, and during 2000-2001 in particular, the bright performance of students and the academic excellence and research accomplishments of the faculty.
The court appreciated the efforts of the faculty in various disciplines for securing Rs.16.85 crores from various funding agencies for undertaking over a hundred research projects.
It noted the efforts made by the university to increase the student enrolment, particularly from weaker sections, and recruitment of faculty from SC and ST communities.
The court lauded the performance of students who received 114 Junior Research Fellowships, three research associateships from the UGC and 35 and 41 SRFs and eight research associateships from the CSIR.
Dr. M. Jagannatham, MP, Mrs. Roda Mistry, former MP, Prof. C. Subba Rao, Chairman, A.P. State Council of Higher Education, who are members of the court, were among those who attended the meeting.
