Erumeli reports denied
By Our Staff Reporter

KOTTAYAM, DEC. 11. Mahalla Muslim Jama-at of Erumeli has strongly denied the reports appearing in a section of the media that Sabarimala pilgrims were refused their right to enter the Nainaar Mosque (popularly known as Vaavar Palli) on Tuesday.

Speaking to mediapersons today, Mr. P H Shahjahan, president, and Mr. M M Liaquat, secretary, pointed out that all facilities have been extended to the pilgrims to enter the mosque as in previous years. They were not denied entry even on security reasons on Monday.

"In fact, this year we have built a 15,000-liter watertank providing hygienic drinking water to the thousands of our brethren who visit Erumeli to pay homage to Sri Ayyappa and his trusted lieutenant, Vaavar Swamy," the Jama-at leaders said.

" The age-old bonhomie between different communities at Erumeli has not been touched by the attempts of communal madness of the worst kind we experienced even in 1992," they said and added perhaps Erumeli was the only place in the country where communal harmony could be experienced in the true spirit during the nightmarish days of Babri Masjid demolition.

"We fear that vested interests were trying to poison such places of true brotherhood existing in our society," they said.

Efforts to spread such wrong information to meet vicious ends were deplorable, they said.

They pointed out that the Jama-at had strongly condemned the attack against Sabarimala pilgrims on the hartal day and had also sought strong measures from those in power against such dastardly acts, they said.

They hoped all right-thinking people will have a serious look on such motivated moves which would wound and pain the collective consciousness of the people who offer prayers at the Cheriambalam, Vaavar Palli and at Valiambalam in Erumeli during their pilgrimage to Sabarimala.
