BJP holds UDF, LDF responsible for violence
By Our Staff Reporter
KOZHIKODE, DEC. 11. The BJP national vice-president, Mr. V. Rama Rao, said here today that appeasement of the communal forces by the successive UDF and LDF Governments for political gains had its outcome on the recent violent incidents in the State.
Speaking at a meeting of the elected representatives of the local bodies in Kozhikode and neighbouring districts, Mr. Rao alleged that both the coalitions had not functioned properly all these years focusing on national issues such as fighting terrorism in the country.
``The political climate should change in Kerala. People wanted peace, but the ruling front is not providing it,'' he charged.
There was no truth in the notion that the growth of the BJP had also resulted in growth of the communal forces in the State. ``The BJP is only a small party in the State,'' he said.
Defending the implementation of the Prevention of Terrorism Ordinance (POTO), he said the State Governments should make note of the compulsions in providing security to the country.
``One of the aspect is that this has been envisaged to stop and curtail all anti-national activities. Further, this is in tune with the international laws prevailing in most of the developed countries to fight terrorism,'' he said.
He said that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) would last its full term without any major problems. Earlier, there were apprehensions whether the motley group would carry on its governance. ``Now several parties are getting attracted to the coalition,'' he said.
The BJP State general secretaries, Mr. P. C. Mohanan and Mr. P. K. Krishnadas, also spoke on the occasion. About 50 elected representative of the three-tier panchayats attended the meeting.
