By Our Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE, DEC. 11. The wife of a Naik attached to the ASC Battalion of the Indian Army has recently submitted a representation to the Defence Minister, Mr. George Fernandes urging him to probe the disappearance of her husband Naik Benny Paul from a Military hospital in Jammu early this year.

In her representation, Mrs. Jolly Benny Paul, a native of to Sulthan Bathery in Wayanad district, said that her husband had disappeared since he returned to Jammu after a brief vacation in August last year. It was a letter from his Commanding Officer that she came to know that her husband was admitted to a Military Hospital for treating Herper Zoster (a skin disease) on February 13, 2001 and was missing since February 15, 2001. According to the letter Mr.Benny Paul was discharged from the hospital in absentia on February 19, 2001 adding that there was no trace of him since then.

Mrs. Benny also tried to find out on her own her husband, the bread-winner of her family with two children, but without much success. Her husband who was in the Army since 1984, had no reason to desert as claimed by the Army, she says.
