Opinion - Letters to the Editor

A right choice

Sir, - The ulster Civil Rights activist, Mr. John Hume, is the right choice for this year's Gandhi Peace Prize. Mr. Hume's two greatest heroes were Mahathma Gandhi and Martin Luther King Jr. Mr. Hume concluded his Nobel lecture on Dec. 10, 1998 with the following words: ``I will now end with a quotation of total hope, the words of a former Laureate, one of my great heroes of this century, Martin Luther King Jr: We shall overcome.''

Mr. Hume's words have come true and there is peace in Northern Ireland and he has won everybody's heart in general and India in particular by translating his words into a mission and winning the award.
