Opinion - Letters to the Editor

How much longer?

Sir, - The prolonging one-sided war in Afghanistan is losing its relevance as its primary objective of nabbing Osama and Mullah Omar is yet to be realised even after two months and the cost is increasing in terms of human lives beyond reason and logic. How many innocent lives will be destroyed in the name of retaliating for the September 11 savagery. The U.S. expedition in Afghanistan will set a precedent and legitimise such attacks in future.

Ms. Malini Parthasarathy in her article has rightly pointed out that `the danger in the new approach exemplified by the American military operation is that the deep anger that is felt against the U.S. and the West, in the developing world particularly in the Islamic world, ever since the military action against Iraq a decade ago, would only intensify'.

K. Malikul Azeez,

Chennai
