Law panel chief resigns

NEW DELHI, DEC. 11. The Chairman of the 16th Law Commission of India, Mr. Justice B.P. Jeevan Reddy, who was re-appointed for a three- year tenure from September 2000, has put in his papers citing personal reasons.

The Government is understood to have accepted his resignation which will come into effect on the afternoon of December 31. Indications are Mr. Justice M. Jagannadha Rao, Vice Chairman of the panel might succeed Mr. Justice Reddy from January 1, 2002.
