BEIJING, DEC. 11. China today became the 143rd member of the World Trade Organisation, ending a 15-year battle for accession to the world body.

China joined the WTO following a 30-day waiting period which began when a WTO meeting in Qatar approved the Chinese accession. ``China will enjoy all the rights the WTO gives to other members, and will observe the WTO regulations and its obligations to the organisation,'' the Ministry of Foreign Trade said.
