Trade centre to be inaugurated

CHENNAI, DEC. 13. The Chennai Trade Centre, the permanent trade fair complex at Nandambakkam, promoted by the India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), under the Commerce Ministry and the Tamilnadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO), will be inaugurated on January 31, 2001, coinciding with the opening of the next India International Leather Fair (IILF).

Being put up in phases over 25 acres, to accommodate four modules of interconnected, fully air-conditioned exhibition halls, the Chennai Trade Centre will be managed and operated by the Tamil Nadu Trade Promotion Organisation (TNTPO), a joint venture company of ITPO and TIDCO, says an ITPO release. The first meeting of the board of the company, held on December 12, discussed administrative and operational arrangements as also the inauguration of the trade centre.

The first phase of the Chennai Trade Centre consists of two halls, with Hall I of 5,000 sq metres capacity and Hall 2-A of 1,850 sq metres, with a height of six metres to facilitate movement of merchandise, including machinery. The exhibition complex, situated on the main trunk road to Porur, at one kilometre from the Kathipara Junction and close to the airport, has ample provision for car parking and other infrastructure facilities and has in its vicinity prestigious hotels such as the Trident, Radisson and Royal Le Meridian, the release adds.
