UP Govt. to ban beauty contests

LUCKNOW, DEC. 13. The Uttar Pradesh Government will not allow beauty contests to be held in the State and has said ``Indian culture is against such shows''.

``Beauty is a natural thing and there can be no contests on this'', the Chief Minister, Mr. Rajnath Singh, told reporters here.

Though no specific orders have been issued so far, district administrations have been asked to ensure that no such shows take place anymore, sources said.

``Indian culture is against such shows of nudity. There can be competition of brains but not beauty,'' Mr. Singh said. He had earlier said at Mathura that no more beauty contests would be held in the State.
