Framing of charges will lead to stir: Laxman

PUNE, DEC. 12. The BJP national president, Mr. Bangaru Laxman, today said if charges were framed against the BJP leaders, Mr. L.K. Advani, Ms. Uma Bharati and Mr. Murli Manohar Joshi, then the party should launch an agitation as that could only be construed as politically motivated.

Talking to reporters here, Mr. Laxman said the entire media, the Central intelligence and State intelligence present at the controversial site had clearly noticed that the three leaders were making frantic appeals not to demolish the structure.

When such was the reality then how could one attribute that they were abetting the crime, he asked. If the charges were framed, ``I will construe it as politically motivated and the entire party will have to agitate against it''.

Replying to a question Mr. Laxman said the Prime Minister had never stated that making of the temple was on the BJP's agenda and ``tomorrow we are going to rebuild the temple or relocate the masjid''.

Referring to the suggestion regarding dialogue between the two communities, Mr. Laxman clarified that what the Prime Minister meant was only to sort out the issue amicably through mutual negotiations.

The Prime Minister had earlier said that pending court decision the issue could be solved through mutual negotiation.

In a sensitive case such as this, out-of-court settlements were always better, Mr. Laxman said. ``But the way in which the atmosphere is being vitiated by the Opposition parties I don't think it will come out.''

Earlier addressing the Sankalp Melawa of the BJP, Mr. Laxman said the Congress had been raking up the Masjid issue in Parliament to incite passion of minorities.

Complementing minorities for their restraint, Mr. Laxman said the raking up of the controversial issue was a `conspiracy' of the Congress to create problems in the country.

This was because the Congress was worried over the growing interest of minorities in the BJP after his call to them to join the BJP with an open heart, he said, adding the BJP's thrust was to welcome all sections of people into the party-fold irrespective of cast, creed or religion.

The pipedream of Opposition parties to stoke communal passions by raking up the Babri Masjid issue would not be fulfilled, he added.
